Product Description

EPS Raw Material

EPS (Expandable Polystyrene) is a lightweight, rigid, plastic foam insulation material produced from solid particles of polystyrene. Expansion is achieved by virtue of small amounts of pentane gas dissolved into the polystyrene base material during production. The gas expands under the action of heat, applied as steam, to form perfectly closed cells of EPS.

Classification of EPS Material:
  • Regular Grades: High Expansion, Medium Grade, Fast Cycling, Colorful beads.
  • Flame Retardant: High Ratio Flame Retardant, Low Pentane Flame Retardant.
EPS Beads EPS Micro Beads Expandable Polystyrene

Fast Cycling Grade EPS

Confers excellent processing and product properties. Consistent raw beads and good fluidity of foamed bead. No harmful odors in pre-expansion and moulding. Characteristically rapid cooling in automatic molding machines and better performance with vacuum system. Uniform cell size, beautiful and flat surface appearance. Recommended 40-60 expansion ratio.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Regular and Flame Retardant EPS?
Regular EPS is used for standard packaging and expansion, while Flame Retardant EPS includes special additives that pass fire safety certifications like UL, making it suitable for construction applications.
How should EPS raw materials be stored safely?
Materials must be stored in well-ventilated areas away from ignition sources (including static electricity) because they contain pentane blowing agents which can form explosive mixtures with air.
What are the recommended steam pressures for moulding?
For stationary and moving moulds, the typical steam pressure ranges between 0.7 to 1.2 kgf/cm², depending on the specific grade and desired density.
Is EPS food-contact safe?
Yes, certain fast-cycling grades are designed with low aromatic hydrocarbon impurities and meet safety requirements for food-contact packaging.
Does Flame Retardant EPS mean it will never burn?
No. International standards define it as a "flammable building material." It is more flame retardant than regular EPS but will still burn if subjected to persistent direct flame.
